Board of Directors
DIXIE ARTHUR has been involved in live theater on the Central Coast for more than 30 years. First, as a performer, she worked with San Luis Obispo Little Theater, Lompoc Civic Theater, Parish Players of SLO, Nipomo’s Adobe Players, and Santa Maria Civic Theater. Some of her favorite roles are “Lady MacBeth” (MacBeth), “Chick” (Crimes of the Heart), “Lady Bracknell” (The Importance of Being Earnest), “Rosemary” (Picnic), “Madam Arcati” (Blithe Spirit), “Sister Aloysius” (Doubt), and most recently, “Clairee” (Steel Magnolias). Her first directing assignment was the classic comedy Auntie Mame in 1998. Discovering that she loved directing, she has now directed nearly fifty plays and musicals. Among her favorite productions are The Elephant Man,The Skin of Our Teeth, Hairspray, Little Shop of Horrors, Romeo and Juliet, Dial M for Murder, and The Dixie Swim Club. Dixie also headed her own local repertory company for four years, from 2004-2008, learning from that experience important lessons about the complexities of small theater administration. She has served on the Santa Maria Civic Theater Board of Directors and is the current President of the Orcutt Community Theater Board of Directors. Dixie is a Magna Cum Laude graduate in English from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and has been teaching English and Theater at Ernest Righetti High School in Orcutt since 1997.
NANCY KUNISHIGE is an O*C*T Board member, its vice-president. She’s had numerous stage roles with SMCT and VCT and also serves on the Valley Community Theatre board. Nancy is a retired postal worker.
KAREN SILVA is an O*C*T Board member, its Secretary.
LEZLIE THORODDSSON, is an O*C*T Board member and past treasurer for the group, comedian, actor, musician, owner of Serenity Day Spa, former teacher at FitzGerald Community School, Improv Theatre, and Allan Hancock College. You may have seen her in It’s a Wonderful Life, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern…, and as Patsy Kline in Always. Lezlie produced the annual “Showcase of Talent” with Dave Campbell.
SANDI MILLER is an O*C*T Board Member, its Parliamentarian, with extensive acting and theater-board experience, having served on the SMCT board for 12 years, and appearing in dozens of plays and workshops. You may have seen her in TV commercials for local restaurants, Coca Cola, Buick, and others. Sandi serves as Chair of the International Foundation for Altrusa, is a past-governor of Altrusa District 11. She and her husband formerly owned Pizano’s Italian Restaurant and currently own MGM Rail Service.
DAVID CAMPBELL, an O*C*T Board member, has extensive theater and film experience. He founded the Peppermint Palace Children’s Theatre in Chico, California, and the Chico Reperatory Theatre. He toured professionally throughout California performing to a half million people. He is a film actor and producer who has been in 20 movies, including Relentless Justice and Deadliest Prey.
JO GRANDE, Director, is an O*C*T Board member with extensive experience in acting and directing. Jo grew up in Orcutt and splits her time between Orcutt and Kauai, Hawaii. Much of her stage experience began with SMCT. She’s been a board member and President of Kauai Community Players. Jo and her former husband ran Maestro’s Italian Restaurant in Santa Maria, and jewelry stores on Kauai. Jo is an active Rotarian. Her theatrical experience, her contagious enthusiasm and her business knowledge are a wonderful benefit to O*C*T.
WIL WELSH, Patron Committee Chairman, logo designer, spends five months a year in Orcutt with his wife, Jo Grande. Wil has extensive experience in all aspects of community theater, currently vice-president for Kauai Community Players after 8 years as President. In 2009, SMCT premiered one of Wil’s musicals, Sugar, Oh, Sugar!. He directed 7 of his original one-acts for Valley Community Theatre and has just finished his second novel. “I’m pleased to help this new community theater group,” Wil said, “it definitely enriches the Orcutt community.”
